Our team have successfully completed a number of on site machining projects during an outage at Longannet Power station in Scotland. Although we were originally contracted on a short term basis, in total Reekie were on site for a total of 8 weeks. This was due to the wide ranging capability and expertise of our team to be able to tackle any machining challenge. This included works in three different units working on superheater steam chests, the main boiler feedpump and associated pipework.
Equipment for hire includes line boring, drilling, milling, flange facing, valve repair and other machining operations. Out project team can also design and manufacture bespoke machine tools should the challenge arise. Reekie have secured a number of orders recently for machine tool hire from an array of clients. This includes customers who work in Valve Manufacture / Repair, Original Equipment Manufacturers, Power Generation, Construction and various others. Enquire for more details.

A rapid response call to a large coal fired power station in the UK was successfully completed this week. We were asked to undertake work on the main boiler feed pump despite two competitors already being on site. As in this instance, Reekie Machining are often called in to carry out the work that others are unable to undertake, including specialist projects requiring the design of bespoke machining solutions. Reekie are fully experienced in servicing all in situ machining works required during large or small outages for fossil and nuclear powered stations, no matter how unusual, complex or unique. We often save our clients time and money due to the quality of our workmanship and the extent of our capabilities. See our Contact section for more details on how to get in touch.
Successful on site machining trial complete of a new, compact, low height drilling machine and method for drilling out seized studs with mating flange in place for a well known Power Generation company. This new method means that the customer does not have to dismantle the equipment or build an expensive supporting structure, saving them valuable time and money. The novel drilling machine has only a 35mm radius from the centreline of the spindle to the body and is only 110mm high allowing the machine to operate in very restricted spaces. Another quick and safe turnaround for Reekie Machining, repairing a crusher jaw at our site in Renfrew. It would normally take our customer up to 6 weeks for a delivery from their previous supplier. Reekie turned the piece round within two and a half weeks, start to finish. “The jobs we do are generally one offs and we are not normally programmed into machine shop schedules, putting us at the back of the queue. It normally took 4, 5 or 6 weeks, with Reekie’s, they re-arranged their schedule and did it straight away. Couldn’t ask for anymore.” Mark Russell, Service Manager, Blue Machinery, Scotland
This week saw the return of our squad from a project that involved machining of a large structure at our customer’s site. The flange we worked on had an OD of approx 6000mm and we machined it to our customer’s requirements. Our R10,000 machine was deployed which can reach up to 20m in diameter if needed. Never one to shy away from finding a solution, Reekie Machining has taken on a number of challenges from a wide range of customers in the Subsea sector. Within the space of a few years, the number of projects we are involved in has increased significantly and we have developed extensive expertise, a strong reputation for delivering quality results and have made real waves in the sector. Health and Safety is paramount in this industry and there are few more notable examples than Offshore Construction Support where the rapid rectification of critical components is essential. We have been entrusted to work in various locations recently on a host of components that, if it weren’t for insitu machining, would have needed to be replaced causing major delays to service and maintenance projects. This includes: • Pressure Chambers – Machining doors and frames to remove corrosion and high spots • Dive Bells – Trunks, doors and frames • Kelly Bottles – Removing seized plugs, rethreading and manufacture new plugs • Pipelaying equipment – ploughs, trenchers, LARS and winches • Carousels – Our R10,000 flange facing machine can work on diameters up to 20 M • Valve / flange repair, pipe cutting and prepping, motor pads and bearing housings. We understand the implications of lost production or operating time, so we pull out all the stops to contain our clients’ losses. “Reekie Machining always seem to come up with the goods… they are our first choice for insitu machining†Dick Piercy, Diving Technical Engineer, Technip UK
