Business Development & Operations Representative - Southwest  (REF: BDOP0926)

Reekie Machining is a specialist Insitu Machining and Engineering Services company based in Glasgow, delivering precision machining solutions directly at our customers’ sites.

 

Our work supports demanding industrial environments where conventional workshop machining is not practical. We provide specialist portable machining, engineering preparation, project support and site execution services to customers across the UK and internationally.

 

We are now looking to strengthen our presence in the Plymouth and Bristol / Southwest England region with an experienced individual who can combine operational engineering knowledge with business development and customer relationship management.

 

The Role

This is a varied and commercially important role that sits between Operations, Project Engineering, Site Execution and Business Development.

 

The successful candidate will act as a key regional focal point for Reekie Machining, developing relationships with existing and prospective customers while also understanding the technical and operational requirements necessary to deliver projects successfully.

 

You will be expected to identify opportunities, understand the customers’ requirements, support technical and commercial development of the opportunity and work closely with our Glasgow HQ to ensure projects can be planned and executed effectively.

 

This is not a traditional sales role. We are looking for someone who understands engineering, machining and industrial site environments and can speak confidently with engineers, project managers, maintenance teams, procurement and senior customer personnel, and execute scopes on the sites as availability dictates.

 

Key Responsibilities

Business Development

– Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective customers throughout the Southwest.

– Identify new opportunities for Insitu Machining and associated engineering services.

– Develop Reekie Machining’s presence within key industrial sectors and customer organisations.

– Attend customer meetings, site visits, technical discussions and tender opportunities.

– Understand customer problems and identify where Reekie Machining’s capabilities can provide a practical solution.

– Support preparation of quotations, tenders, technical proposals and project scopes.

– Develop opportunities from initial enquiry through to order placement and project execution.

– Maintain an effective regional sales and opportunity pipeline.

– Provide regular reporting to Glasgow HQ on opportunities, customer activity and market development.

 

Operational & Project Engineering

– Act as the regional operational focal point between customers, site teams and Glasgow HQ.

– Review customer requirements and help establish appropriate machining and engineering solutions.

– Support project planning, mobilisation and resource requirements.

– Understand site constraints, access requirements, permits, RAMS, tooling, equipment and personnel requirements.

– Work with the Operations team to ensure projects are technically and commercially deliverable.

– Provide support during mobilisation and, where required, attend site during project execution.

– Assist with resolving operational issues and customer requirements during live projects.

– Capture project feedback and identify opportunities for improving future delivery.

 

Site Execution

The ideal candidate will have previous experience working within industrial site environments and will understand the requirements associated with site-based engineering work. Experience of relevant site passes, inductions, competency requirements, permit systems and customer site procedures would be highly advantageous.

– Develop and assess opportunities.

– Review engineering requirements.

– Support project mobilisation.

– Liaise with customers and site management.

– Support Reekie Machining site teams.

– Assist with project delivery and close-out.

– Execute scopes as required

 

The Candidate

We are looking for an experienced engineering professional who can operate comfortably across both technical and commercial environments, whilst being flexible to be hands when situations dictate. Ideally fully competent in the machining discipline.

 

You may currently be working as or in the past have been a Project Engineer, Project Manager, Mechanical Engineer, Site Engineer or Shutdown Lead.

 

Alternatively, you may have progressed through a machining trade or mechanical engineering background into project, operational or commercial responsibilities with machining exposure.

 

Essential Experience

– Strong engineering or machining background.

– Experience within an industrial engineering environment.

– Understanding of machining processes and engineering applications.

– Experience of project or operational delivery.

– Ability to understand technical requirements and translate them into practical solutions.

– Experience working directly with customers.

– Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

– Ability to work independently and manage a regional workload.

– Willingness to travel to customer sites.

– Full UK driving licence. (Clean)

 

Desirable Experience

– Previous Insitu Machining experience.

– Machining trade background.

– Project Engineering experience.

– Site execution experience.

– Experience working within major industrial sites.

– Existing site passes / inductions.

– Oil & Gas, Nuclear, Power Generation, Petrochemical, Marine, Renewables or Heavy Engineering experience.

– Experience with RAMS, permits, site mobilisation and engineering documentation.

– Existing customer relationships within the Southwest industrial market.

– Commercial / quotation / tender experience.

– NEBOSH, IOSH or other relevant H&S experience.

– HNC/HND/Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering experience.

You should be comfortable walking onto an industrial site, understanding the customers’ problems, discussing the engineering requirements with their team and then working with our Glasgow operation to determine how Reekie Machining can deliver the solution.

 

You will need to be proactive rather than waiting for opportunities to come to you.

 

The successful candidate will effectively become Reekie Machining’s regional focal point in the Southwest, while remaining fully connected to our technical, operational and management teams in Glasgow.

Insitu Machinist (REF: INMA0225)

The Role

We are looking for dynamic machinists, who are looking to broaden their skill out on sites.  Do you enjoy a challenge and solving problems?  Do you fancy working in a wide variety of settings from nuclear power industry, oil and gas, renewables as well as aerospace, heavy industry and naval construction and refits and many more.  The work is primarily based on sites across the UK, with increasing work in Europe and Worldwide.

 

Then a full-time position with in Reekie Machining, Insitu Team is for you.

 

Skill Set

The successful candidate:

– Must be a time-served skilled machinist.  No previous experience of insitu machining is required as support to develop your skills in the insitu environment will be provided.

– Have a ‘can do’ attitude.

– Enjoy problem solving and continually developing your skills and knowledge.

– Can work on own initiative and is a proactive problem solver.

Location

Based at our machine shop in Inchinnan Business Park, Renfrew, beside Glasgow Airport.  The insitu role will take you across the country, Europe and Worldwide.

 

Salary and Benefits

– Ability to earn up to £70,000 per year.

– Accrued Leave, accumulated at 0.1hrs per hour worked on site, paid at basic shop rate.

– The basic shop rate is £19.26/hr, enhanced rates for work on site, including dayshift, nightshift, offshore and more.

– Overtime is paid at time and a half outside normal hours and double time Saturday after 12noon and all-day Sunday.

– Holiday entitlement, 25 days annual holidays and 8 days of public holidays each holiday year, all paid at holiday rate. (Based on the last 52 worked weeks)

– One additional day annual holiday for every 10 years’ service completed.
