flange facing

Reekie Machining provides a comprehensive range of flange facing services. We are able to set up a machine to a required datum.
Our machines with experienced operators are capable of capable of machining the faces of a flange to a variety of surface faces whether smooth or gramophone type finish.

We can also machine ring type groove or hub type flanges. We also have the ability of machining recessed faces, raised faces, 'O' ring grooves, lens rings grooves, counterbores, outside diameters and weld preparations. Flange faces can be machined concentric, 'square', eccentric or off-set at an angle dependent on the job requirement.

Machine location can either be inside, outside diameter or surface location. Flanges can be back spot faced or the entire back face can be machined parallel to the front face. Flanges can also be turned or bored, and prepared for drilling if required Our flange facing machines can cope with ranges from 0m inside diameter to 20m outside diameter and anything in between. Flatness tolerances achievable can be within 0.03mm for the smaller sizes and within 0.2mm for up to 20m diameter. Where surface finishes of better than Ra1.6mm is required, Reekie grinding attachments can be fitted and used.

We have a comprehensive range of flange facing equipment. All machines can be used for turning various lengths with the added facility that, for the larger machines, linishing heads can be fitted to give tight tolerances and surface finishes better than Ra0.8um.

For vessels and structural components, related flanges can be machined concentric, parallel or to any required orientation using the flange facing machines in conjunction with Reekie laser alignment equipment The R10000 flange facing machine is an example of a larger flange facing machine, capable of machining up to 20m diameter.

The illustration is of a R10000 machining a diameter of 11m. The workpiece is a turret for an FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading unit or vessel) for North Sea oil production. We have a full range of smaller scale flange facing machines. These machines allow smaller flanges to be refaced to remove damage or steam cuts. This offers a quicker and cost-effective option instead of having to replace with a new unit.
